Pueblo, CO – Strong winds and dangerously low humidity have prompted widespread Red Flag Warnings across Colorado, creating extreme fire danger through Tuesday evening. Gusts reaching up to 65 mph, combined with single-digit humidity, have officials urging residents to avoid activities that could spark a wildfire.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, Red Flag Warnings are in effect from 9 a.m. Monday through 9 p.m. Tuesday for the southern I-25 corridor. Additional warnings apply from 11 a.m. Monday to midnight Tuesday for San Luis Valley, Fremont County, and the eastern plains. A High Wind Watch has also been issued for Tuesday, with damaging winds expected in the San Luis Valley, I-25 corridor, and southern plains.
Forecasters warn of hazardous travel conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles, as strong crosswinds and blowing dust could significantly reduce visibility. Winds are expected to shift northerly behind a cold front Tuesday afternoon, increasing fire risks further.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects, avoid burning, and report any smoke sightings immediately. Fire officials stress the importance of extreme caution during this period of heightened wildfire risk.
