Denver, CO – Mountain travel across Colorado is set to deteriorate quickly by Tuesday evening, with snow and strong winds expected to impact key passes through Wednesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 9 p.m. Wednesday for areas above 9,000 feet. Snowfall totals between 3 and 10 inches are expected, along with wind gusts up to 45 mph.

The heaviest impacts will be felt across major mountain corridors, including Rabbit Ears Pass, Berthoud Pass, and areas near the Eisenhower Tunnel along I-70. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, especially in exposed areas near Rocky Mountain National Park, Breckenridge, and the Indian Peaks.

Roads will become snow-covered and slick, with difficult travel likely during the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes. Drivers should allow extra time, carry winter supplies, and check COtrip.org or call 511 for real-time updates.

Conditions will remain hazardous through Wednesday evening before gradually improving overnight. Additional advisories may be issued if snowfall or wind intensifies.
