Denver, Colo. – Damaging winds up to 65 mph could sweep through northeast Colorado this evening as severe thunderstorms target areas near and east of Fort Morgan between 4 and 8 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, the greatest storm threat lies across the northeastern plains, where strong wind gusts will accompany scattered thunderstorms. Counties including Morgan, Logan, and Washington should prepare for sudden weather changes and fast-moving storm cells.
Drivers on I-76 and US-34 are advised to use caution during the evening commute, especially in open or rural areas vulnerable to wind. Residents should secure outdoor items and remain indoors during peak storm hours. Power outages are possible due to downed lines from high winds.
Windy conditions are expected to continue into Thursday across the Front Range foothills and ridgelines, with gusts near 60 mph. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms is possible each afternoon through Saturday, with more widespread activity developing Sunday into Monday.
No official spotter activation is expected today, but the NWS encourages reports of strong winds. Further updates are likely as the storm system progresses into the weekend.
