Colorado Springs, Colo. – Afternoon storms packing gusty winds and lightning could hit parts of southern Colorado Thursday, bringing a renewed risk of travel delays and localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after 2 p.m. Thursday, mainly across higher terrain and urban areas like Colorado Springs. Brief heavy rain, outflow winds near 40 mph, and lightning are expected — especially near the I-25 corridor and the foothills west of town. Motorists are urged to avoid flooded low spots and watch for sudden gusts.

While early storms may remain scattered, stronger cells could bring quick rainfall totals and reduced visibility on roadways. Storm activity should diminish by late Thursday night, but isolated rain chances persist into Friday and Saturday.

In Fremont, Teller, and El Paso counties, drier and warmer conditions return by Sunday, with highs climbing into the upper 80s. Still, isolated afternoon storms remain possible through Monday.
