Tulsa, Oklahoma – Widespread heavy rain is set to drench eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas starting Thursday morning, with some areas potentially seeing up to 5 inches by early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, showers and thunderstorms will increase significantly from Thursday through Friday evening, especially southeast of Interstate 44. Rainfall totals are expected to reach 1 to 3 inches in most locations, with isolated amounts of 4 to 5 inches near Hugo, McAlester, and Fort Smith. These downpours could trigger both flash flooding and mainstem river rises.

Rain probabilities climb as high as 80% by Thursday afternoon in Fayetteville and Fort Smith, with persistent showers expected through late Friday. Areas such as Muskogee, Okemah, and Tahlequah could also see several inches of rain. Drivers should avoid low-lying roads and monitor flash flood warnings. Residents in flood-prone zones should clear storm drains and charge mobile devices in case of power outages.

Temperatures will stay in the low 80s through Friday before rebounding into the upper 80s and low 90s by the weekend. Drier, warmer weather is expected to return Saturday.

Flash flood watches may be issued for the region. Stay alert for updated advisories through Friday night.
