Colorado Springs, CO – Strong winds, critical fire danger, and periods of snow are expected to impact southern Colorado, including Colorado Springs and the San Luis Valley, through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, wind gusts could exceed 60 mph on Tuesday across the southern plains and foothills, prompting hazardous travel and increasing wildfire risks. Red Flag conditions will persist Monday through Wednesday, with the highest threat occurring on Tuesday due to low humidity and strong southwest winds.
In the high elevations along the Continental Divide, snow showers are likely, especially between Monday night and Thursday. Light accumulations between one to two inches are forecast. The San Juan, Sangre de Cristo, and Sawatch mountain ranges will be the most affected.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure loose objects, and monitor travel conditions on north-south highways, where blowing dust could reduce visibility.
Looking ahead, a stronger storm system is expected to arrive Friday, bringing heavy precipitation and snow to mountain areas across southern Colorado.
Travelers and residents should stay updated via the National Weather Service and local emergency alerts for changing conditions throughout the week.
