Colorado Springs, Colorado – High winds, hail, and fire danger will dominate the weather across southern Colorado starting Friday, bringing a volatile stretch to the I-25 corridor and beyond.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Friday afternoon along Highway 50 and into the San Luis Valley. Gusts up to 45 mph, frequent lightning, and small hail could impact outdoor plans and travel. While storm chances decrease Saturday, fire danger increases sharply, especially in areas with dry brush and gusty winds.

The threat extends into Sunday for much of south-central and southeast Colorado, including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and La Junta. NWS warns of critical fire conditions across valleys and plains, urging residents to avoid outdoor burning and use caution with tools and machinery that can spark flames.

Friday brings a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially after noon, with a high near 56°F. Winds could reach 15 mph. Saturday follows with lighter rain chances (40%) but stronger fire concerns as winds strengthen.

Looking ahead, Sunday turns sunny and breezy with highs near 79°F. Monday and Tuesday cool down slightly, with a slight frost risk Tuesday night as lows dip into the upper 30s.
