Pueblo, Colorado – Severe storms are expected to erupt across southern and eastern Colorado on Thursday, with the potential for tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds as early as midday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms will begin over the mountains by lunchtime, impacting areas along the Palmer Divide, Raton Pass, and the I-25 corridor through the afternoon. The threat will then expand eastward into the plains, especially over Baca, Bent, and Prowers counties, lasting well into the evening hours.

Hazards include winds gusting up to 70 mph, hail up to two inches in diameter, flash flooding in low-lying areas, and a chance for one or two tornadoes. Communities like La Junta, Lamar, and Springfield are in the higher risk zone and should stay weather aware.

Drivers should avoid travel during peak storm times, secure outdoor items, and have multiple ways to receive emergency warnings. Residents are urged to charge devices and check local alerts throughout the day.

Severe weather watches and warnings are likely Thursday afternoon into the night. Updates will be issued as conditions develop.
