Denver, CO – Residents of Colorado are bracing for an intense heatwave expected to hit the region from Friday through Monday. Temperatures are forecasted to soar above 100 degrees Fahrenheit across many locations in Northeast Colorado.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Denver/Boulder, there is a high probability of temperatures exceeding 100 degrees each afternoon in various cities along the I-25 corridor and the plains. Cities such as Fort Morgan and Sterling are likely to experience the hottest conditions, with some areas having up to a 75% chance of hitting 100 degrees or more on certain days.
While not all areas will reach 100 degrees, the NWS advises caution, especially during the peak afternoon hours when temperatures are at their highest. It is recommended to avoid strenuous outdoor activities and stay hydrated to prevent heat-related illnesses.
This extreme heat comes with potential health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions, including staying indoors during the hottest parts of the day and drinking plenty of water.
The forecast for Denver includes highs of 93 degrees on Thursday, rising to 96 on Friday, and reaching a peak of 102 degrees on Saturday. Temperatures will remain high through Monday, with a slight drop to 97 degrees on Sunday and 86 degrees on Monday.
