Grand Junction, Colorado – Fire weather warnings are in effect for portions of western Colorado today, as gusty winds and extremely dry conditions pose a significant risk for wildfire spread. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Junction, southwesterly winds will range from 30 to 40 mph this afternoon, combined with relative humidity levels dropping as low as 10–15%. These conditions are expected to last until 8 p.m. MDT today.

With winds expected to intensify throughout the afternoon, fire danger will remain high across much of western Colorado, including counties like Mesa, Montrose, and Delta. The low humidity means that fires will have the potential to spread quickly and uncontrollably. Local authorities are strongly advising against any outdoor burning, and the NWS is urging residents to remain vigilant.

Travelers and residents are advised to secure loose objects, avoid outdoor activities that could start a fire, and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. The fire risk is forecasted to remain high tomorrow with similar conditions.

Stay updated with local authorities for further warnings and prepare to take action if necessary.
