Pueblo, CO – Southern Colorado faces heightened fire danger as a Red Flag Warning remains in effect from noon to 9 p.m. Monday, with gusty winds and dry conditions posing serious wildfire risks across Pueblo, the San Luis Valley, and surrounding counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the warning applies to Fire Weather Zones 224, 228, 229, 230, 232, and 233. These include Pueblo, Huerfano, Las Animas, Otero counties, and the San Luis Valley region, encompassing cities like Alamosa, Del Norte, and Walsenburg. Winds from the southwest are expected to reach 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph in the San Luis Valley and up to 40 mph in eastern zones. Relative humidity may drop as low as 11%, creating volatile fire conditions.

Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and any activities that could spark flames. Fire spread will be rapid and unpredictable under these conditions.

A Fire Weather Watch is already in place for Tuesday afternoon through evening, with gusts up to 60 mph forecasted. Residents should stay alert for updated advisories and prepare for rapidly changing fire risks.
