Denver, CO – A Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon to 7 p.m. MDT Sunday across northeast and southeast Colorado due to strong winds and low humidity, creating conditions favorable for rapid wildfire spread.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver, the warning covers multiple counties, including Weld, Elbert, Lincoln, Logan, Sedgwick, Phillips, and Washington. Southwest winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. Humidity levels could drop as low as 9 to 15 percent.

A Fire Weather Watch is also in place from Monday morning through Monday evening for the urban corridor, southern foothills, South Park, and portions of the plains, signaling continued high fire risk.

Officials urge residents to avoid any outdoor activities that could spark a fire, such as burning debris, using open flames, or operating machinery that generates sparks.

The combination of high winds, warm temperatures, and extremely dry conditions increases the likelihood of fire ignition and rapid spread. Fire officials advise keeping emergency plans ready and staying informed about local fire conditions.

Residents should stay updated on weather alerts and adhere to all fire restrictions. Any fire that starts in these conditions could quickly become unmanageable.
