Grand Junction, Colorado — Residents across eastern Utah and western Colorado are facing one last gusty afternoon on Sunday, with winds reaching 35 to 50 mph in many areas. Wind advisories are in effect through the afternoon, with the strongest winds affecting the valleys of northeastern Utah and northwestern Colorado, as well as central western Colorado.

According to the National Weather Service, these strong gusts are paired with dangerously dry conditions, prompting Red Flag Warnings from noon until 8 p.m. across much of the region. The combination of high winds and very low humidity is creating critical fire weather, elevating the risk of wildfires spreading rapidly.

In particular, areas with the driest air, including much of central and southern Colorado, are under the highest level of alert. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, and anyone living in or near wildfire-prone areas should stay vigilant, as fires can spread quickly under these conditions.

With fire weather conditions expected to persist through the evening, authorities warn that additional updates or advisories could follow depending on how conditions evolve. Stay informed and prioritize safety.
