Pueblo, CO – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for parts of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico, with snowfall totals expected to reach up to 9 inches in some areas by early Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the advisory will remain in effect from 11 a.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday for the Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Wet Mountains. Higher elevations in these areas are forecasted to receive between 3 and 9 inches of snow. Lower elevations, including Walsenburg and Trinidad, could see totals of 3 to 5 inches.
The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a similar advisory for northern New Mexico’s Raton Pass and Johnson and Bartlett Mesas. Snowfall could accumulate to 5 inches near the Colorado border, particularly above 7,500 feet.
Travelers should prepare for hazardous conditions, including slick roads and reduced visibility, particularly along Interstate 25. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and allow extra travel time.
