
Colfax County, NM – On Thursday, a 42-year-old Maxwell man was killed in an officer-involved shooting after a high-speed pursuit with law enforcement near the intersection of U.S. Highway 64 and U.S. Highway 445.
According to the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau, the incident began when Tyrel Richter Cutchie allegedly ran a Springer Electric Company vehicle off the road and pointed a gun at the occupants. After fleeing an attempted traffic stop, Cutchie was involved in a PIT maneuver and a collision with State Police, leading to gunfire from Colfax County deputies. Cutchie was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is under investigation by the New Mexico State Police, with findings to be reviewed by the district attorney.
