Raleigh, NC – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect across central North Carolina tonight, with snow and freezing wind chills anticipated. The advisory begins at 5 p.m. and lasts through 7 a.m. Wednesday. Residents along and east of US-1 should prepare for 1 to 2 inches of snow, while other areas may see lighter dustings.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures tonight will dip as low as 18°F, with wind chills between 0°F and 10°F. Snow accumulation could make roads slick, especially bridges and overpasses, potentially impacting Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes. Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra time for travel.
Forecast for Wednesday and Beyond
Wednesday will bring sunny skies and highs near 32°F, but freezing temperatures will linger through the night with lows around 14°F. Thursday will see a slight warm-up, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 39°F. Overnight temperatures will remain cold, dropping to 24°F.
By Friday, highs are expected to reach 43°F under mostly sunny skies. The warming trend continues into Saturday, with highs around 45°F. However, residents should remain cautious of icy conditions during early mornings and late evenings as temperatures stay below freezing overnight.
Stay Prepared
Residents are encouraged to wear layers, bring pets indoors, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall hours. Portable heaters should be used carefully to prevent fire hazards. For updates, tune in to NOAA Weather Radio or visit weather.gov.
