Tallahassee, FL – Residents in the Florida Panhandle are urged to prepare for hazardous conditions tonight as a winter storm brings snow, freezing rain, and sleet to the area. Power outages and treacherous driving conditions are expected through early Wednesday morning, with US-231 and other major roadways likely to see icy patches and delays.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the storm’s impact will intensify by late Tuesday afternoon, bringing mixed precipitation through midnight. Freezing rain is the primary concern, with ice accumulations capable of damaging trees, powerlines, and vehicles. Travel is strongly discouraged, as roads may become impassable overnight.
Cold air moving across the region will cause temperatures to drop into the low 20s by Tuesday night. Gusty winds may push wind chills into the teens, posing a frostbite risk for those outdoors. Residents are urged to limit travel, wrap outdoor pipes to prevent freezing, and secure backup power sources.
Wednesday is expected to bring some relief, with sunny skies and highs near 38°F. However, black ice may linger on untreated roads and sidewalks during the morning hours.
The week ahead offers mild improvement, with highs reaching the mid-40s by Friday. While Wednesday night will see lows near 23°F, temperatures will climb into the mid-20s by Thursday night. No additional precipitation is forecast after tonight.
For updates, monitor NWS bulletins and check local road conditions before traveling.
