Amarillo, TX – Residents across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles should prepare for a noticeably cooler start to the week, with cloudy skies and periods of light rain expected from early Monday through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo.
A weak cold front moving through the region overnight Sunday will drop temperatures sharply, bringing Monday highs mostly in the 60s—and possibly the 50s in northern areas. “Temperatures will drop Monday with little recovery in the afternoon,” forecasters said Sunday, adding that the coolest conditions are expected across the northern Panhandles.
According to the National Weather Service, light rain will develop from south to north early Monday morning, with the best chance for steady rain between 4 p.m. Monday and midnight Tuesday. Most locations should see between 0.1 and 0.4 inches of rain, though a few southern areas could see up to 1 inch. There’s also a 10–15% chance of isolated thunderstorms near the stalled front.
Highs are forecast to rebound into the upper 70s by Tuesday afternoon as the front moves east and conditions begin to dry out.
