La Crosse, WI – A bitter cold front will grip the region this weekend, bringing snow showers and plunging temperatures across western Wisconsin. Residents are urged to prepare for hazardous travel conditions, especially on Interstate 90 and nearby roads.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, light snow and gusty winds are expected to begin this evening, with temperatures dropping to 6°F overnight. Saturday will be mostly sunny but frigid, with highs reaching only 10°F and wind gusts up to 31 mph. A dangerous wind chill of -20°F is forecast by Saturday night.

The cold will intensify Sunday as temperatures hover near 1°F. Monday’s high will barely rise above -2°F, with northwest winds exacerbating the chill. Overnight lows could reach -14°F.

Travelers should use caution as blowing snow and freezing temperatures could create slick roads and low visibility on major highways, including Interstate 90. Emergency kits with blankets, flashlights, and food are recommended for drivers.

The National Weather Service advises checking local forecasts before heading out and dressing in layers to prevent frostbite. Weekend outdoor activities should be limited to avoid exposure to extreme cold.

Looking ahead, temperatures may rise slightly by Tuesday, with a forecasted high of 4°F. However, cold conditions are expected to persist into next week.
