Pittsburgh, PA – A code orange air quality alert is in effect today for Pittsburgh and surrounding areas, including Clairton, Liberty, and Glassport. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection warns that air pollution levels may be unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and those with lung or heart conditions.
According to the alert, those affected should avoid outdoor exercise or strenuous activities, especially during peak pollution hours. The alert comes amid ongoing warm and dry weather, with temperatures reaching 78°F today. Residents are urged to take precautions to protect their health.
Looking ahead, Pittsburgh will continue to experience warm conditions, with highs reaching 81°F on Tuesday. By Wednesday night, there is a slight 20% chance of rain, which could provide some relief from the dry conditions and poor air quality. Temperatures are expected to drop to a more seasonal range by Thursday, with highs near 57°F.
While today’s air quality may pose health risks, the chance of showers midweek could help clear the air. Those with respiratory conditions should monitor the air quality throughout the day and stay informed of any changes in local weather forecasts.
