Cleveland, OH– Drivers across northern Ohio will see a brief break in the rain overnight, but another round of soaking showers and thunderstorms is set to return Wednesday evening and last through Thursday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, rainfall totals through Thursday night will range from around a half-inch near Toledo, Sandusky and Erie to as much as 1 to 1.5 inches from Findlay and Mansfield east through Akron, Canton and Youngstown. A few thunderstorms could develop Wednesday night into Thursday, especially across southern and eastern counties.
Statewide, the renewed rain could slow travel along Interstates 71, 77 and 80, with ponding possible during heavier downpours. Low-lying roads and poor-drainage areas may collect water quickly, particularly in Stark, Summit and Mahoning counties. Motorists should allow extra time for the Thursday commute and never drive through flooded roadways.
In Cleveland, rain chances ramp up after sunset Wednesday and remain elevated through much of Thursday. Communities along the Lake Erie shoreline, including Mentor and Ashtabula, can expect lighter totals but periods of steady rain.
The wet pattern lingers into Thursday night, and additional advisories could be issued if thunderstorms intensify.
