Cleveland, Ohio – Residents across northern Ohio should prepare for another round of potentially severe weather on Tuesday as thunderstorms develop late in the morning and race southeast through the afternoon. While forecasters note uncertainty in how widespread severe storms will become, any storm that intensifies could produce damaging winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, thunderstorms are expected to form late Tuesday morning before moving quickly to the southeast during the afternoon. The greatest chance for severe weather is expected across the southeastern portion of the forecast area, although storms may develop elsewhere before exiting the region.
The primary threat will be isolated to scattered wind gusts up to 70 mph, capable of downing trees, damaging power lines, and producing scattered power outages. The strongest storms may also generate hail at least 1 inch in diameter, along with a few brief tornadoes.
Communities including Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown, Mansfield, New Philadelphia, Wooster, and surrounding areas should closely monitor weather conditions throughout Tuesday. Motorists traveling on Interstates I-71, I-77, I-80, and I-90 could encounter sudden heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and sharply reduced visibility as storms move through.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items, charge mobile devices before storms arrive, and make sure they have multiple ways to receive weather warnings. If a Severe Thunderstorm Warning or Tornado Warning is issued, move indoors immediately and stay away from windows.
The severe weather threat will diminish as storms move southeast Tuesday afternoon, but additional warnings may be issued with little notice if thunderstorms strengthen more than currently expected.
