CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect from 1 p.m. Saturday through Sunday evening along Lake Erie, with dangerous rip currents expected from Lorain to Ashtabula Counties and into northern Erie County, Pennsylvania.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, winds up to 15 mph will combine with wave action to create strong currents along the lakeshore. The greatest impacts will be felt at public beaches in Cleveland, Lorain, Mentor, and Ashtabula, where swimmers are urged to stay out of the water.

Officials warn that currents can quickly pull even experienced swimmers away from shore, often dragging them across sand bars or into deeper channels. Beachgoers are advised to remain onshore and avoid entering the water until conditions improve Sunday night.

Those heading to the lakefront should expect rough surf and limited safe swimming access, though skies will gradually clear by Saturday evening before scattered storms return on Sunday. The risk of hazardous currents will persist until winds shift and calm conditions return by early Monday.

Beach advisories remain in effect, with updates expected if conditions worsen.
