Ohio – Snowflakes drift sideways along the Lake Erie shoreline this morning, catching in streetlights and clinging to windshields. The air feels biting already, and each passing snow shower leaves pavement darker and slicker. Winter is not easing up, and the cold ahead may be more punishing than what’s already here.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, scattered snow showers are expected today, with brief bursts reducing visibility and creating slick roads. Daytime snow accumulation stays under an inch, but untreated surfaces may turn hazardous quickly. Gusty winds add to the chill and push snow across roadways.

Across greater Cleveland, drivers on I-90, I-71, and I-480 should prepare for changing conditions, especially late today and again tonight. Snow showers continue at times into Saturday, followed by lighter chances Sunday. While snowfall totals remain modest, repeated rounds increase travel risks.

The larger concern builds into the weekend and early next week. Multiple Arctic fronts drive temperatures sharply lower, with overnight lows dropping into the teens and single digits. Wind chills fall near or below zero several nights, especially Sunday night into MLK Day morning.

By MLK Day Monday, patchy blowing snow becomes possible as winds increase again. Highs struggle to reach 20 degrees, and exposed skin can feel the cold quickly. Any lingering moisture freezes solid, raising black ice risks on bridges, ramps, and sidewalks.

Residents should limit unnecessary travel during snow bursts, dress in layers, and prepare vehicles for extreme cold. Lake-effect snow chances may increase early next week as colder air pours over Lake Erie.
