Cleveland, Ohio – Drivers along I-90 and I-71 will see a dramatic temperature swing over the next 48 hours, with highs pushing into the mid-50s Friday before snow showers return after 9 p.m. Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, dry air holds across northern Ohio through Saturday afternoon. Friday will be the warmest day of the stretch, with highs ranging from 48 to 56 degrees from Toledo to Akron. Roads across Cuyahoga, Lorain and Summit counties will remain dry, offering smooth travel along I-480 and I-77 through the evening commute.
Clouds increase Saturday as a cold front approaches. Afternoon temperatures still reach the 40s to near 50 degrees, but colder air quickly filters in after sunset. By late Saturday night, scattered snow showers are expected to develop, especially east of I-77 and into northeast Ohio’s snowbelt communities.
Temperatures fall sharply into the upper teens and lower 20s by early Sunday morning. Any moisture left on bridges and overpasses along I-271 and I-90 could refreeze, creating slick patches for early travelers. While widespread heavy accumulation is not anticipated, brief bursts of snow may reduce visibility and coat untreated surfaces.
Sunday remains colder, with highs struggling to climb out of the 30s before a gradual rebound early next week.
Motorists should monitor updated statements through Saturday night, as minor timing shifts in the cold front could affect when roads turn slick across northeast Ohio.
