Clark County, Indiana — Several crashes overnight prompted road closures and ongoing travel cautions across parts of Clark County, particularly along Interstates 65 and 265.
According to the Indiana State Police Sellersburg Post, hazardous road conditions overnight led to multiple crashes in Clark County. The Lewis and Clark (East End) Bridge on I-265 was blocked due to crashes, and an earlier incident near the 14-mile marker on southbound I-65 resulted in an ISP patrol vehicle being struck while an officer was assisting with traffic.
In a 6 a.m. update Thursday, troopers said road conditions have generally improved, but problem areas remain, especially:
- I-65 near Mile Marker 14 (Memphis area)
- South of I-265 near bridge decks
- I-265 near the New East End Bridge
Police said snowfall was sporadic, with many areas seeing improvement, but bridges and elevated surfaces continue to pose a risk for icy patches.
A 12 a.m. advisory had warned drivers after crashes accumulated over several hours overnight, underscoring how quickly conditions deteriorated despite relatively light snow.
Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and remain alert for emergency responders working along roadways. Drivers should also be prepared for sudden slick spots, particularly near bridges and shaded areas.
No timeline was provided for full clearance of all affected areas, and officials said drivers should continue using caution through the morning hours.
This alert is especially relevant for morning commuters, commercial drivers, and emergency responders, as traffic volumes increase while road conditions remain uneven.
