WILMINGTON, Ohio — A weak weather disturbance could bring light snow late Wednesday night into Thursday morning across parts of the Cincinnati region, with a low-probability risk of slick roads during the Thursday commute, according to the National Weather Service office in Wilmington.

In a Wednesday update, the agency said the best chance for snow is mainly across southeast Indiana, southwest Ohio and northern Kentucky. Forecasters emphasized considerable uncertainty about whether the disturbance will generate precipitation at all and, if it does, how much snow will fall.

Most likely, any snowfall will be light, the weather service said. Still, a forecast probability graphic indicated a 20% to 30% chance of 1 inch or more of snow in parts of the Tri-State area around Cincinnati. The outlook is valid through 9 a.m. Thursday, the agency said.

Because pavement temperatures and snowfall rates can vary block to block, even minor accumulations can create spotty travel problems, especially on bridges, overpasses and less-traveled roads. The weather service said the overall probability of impacts is low, but any bursts of snow late tonight could be enough to cause isolated slick spots for early drivers.

Areas farther from the Cincinnati corridor were shown with lower probabilities for 1 inch or more, consistent with the forecast that most places would see little accumulation if snow develops. The agency’s message stressed that the primary issue is not a major storm, but the possibility of a brief period of snow during the overnight and early-morning hours.

Commuters, students and early-shift workers are urged to monitor updated forecasts and road conditions before leaving Thursday morning, particularly in southeast Indiana, southwest Ohio and northern Kentucky. If snow develops, drivers should reduce speed and increase following distance.
