Omaha, NE – Travelers and residents across eastern Nebraska face limited visibility as a dense fog advisory remains in effect until noon today, with conditions gradually improving by the afternoon. The fog, combined with freezing temperatures, is expected to create slippery roadways and hazardous driving conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, today’s high will reach 38°F, with patchy fog lingering throughout the day. Travelers on major roadways, including Interstate 80, are urged to reduce speeds and use headlights in low-visibility areas.
Tonight, patchy fog will persist, with a low of 34°F and a slight chance of drizzle after midnight. By Thursday, drizzle is expected to develop after 2 p.m., leading to a high near 45°F. Drivers should prepare for potential slick spots on untreated surfaces as temperatures remain close to freezing overnight.
Looking ahead, a stronger system is forecast for Friday, bringing a 60% chance of rain, warmer temperatures in the upper 40s, and patchy fog during the morning. Precipitation could impact post-Christmas travel plans, particularly during peak driving hours.
Conditions will improve Saturday, with sunny skies and highs reaching 52°F. Residents are encouraged to use the coming days to finalize travel preparations and plan for possible delays on wet roadways.
