DuPage County, Ill. — The U.S. National Weather Service for Chicago, Illinois has issued a heat advisory warning for the DuPage County area. The warning starts Friday, June 20, though Sunday, June 22.
Temperatures are expected to reach over 100℉ this weekend. The National Weather Service encourages all to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activity during the peak hours of 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., wear light and loose fitting clothing, keep pets indoors, check on elderly neighbors and loved ones and never leave children or pets in the car.
Some DuPage County cities have changed weekend plans due to the weather — here’s what to expect for this weekend.
Downers Grove
Downers Grove announced that due to the excessive heat, all outdoor activities scheduled for Saturday, June 21, and Sunday, June 22, have been canceled. Downers Grove noted this is to ensure the safety of all residents and staff.
Orland Park
Due to extreme conditions for Monday, June 23, the Village of Orland Park will move the scheduled waste pick-up one hour earlier on Monday. Waste Management will begin pickups at 5 a.m. on June 23. The village asked residents to bring waste to the curb before then to accommodate this change.
The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office announced the opening of over 60 new cooling centers throughout the county. DuPage cities around the county have encouraged people to use these over the weekend.
