Chicago Weather: Gusty Thunderstorms Near I-88 and Lake Michigan This Afternoon

Chicago, IL – A line of gusty thunderstorms will continue moving eastward north of Interstate 88 and toward Lake Michigan into the early afternoon hours. While severe weather is not expected, these thunderstorms may produce gusty winds and small hail in addition to lightning strikes and downpours.

According to the National Weather Service, the affected areas include Rockford, Elgin, and parts of Chicago. The main hazards in the green-shaded area are gusty winds that may down small branches or move light objects, and small hail. All thunderstorms in the region can produce lightning strikes and downpours, which could cause slowed driving conditions.

Residents are advised to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and to move indoors if they hear thunder. The storms are expected to continue through 1 PM CDT, with a northeastward motion at 30 mph.

The forecast for the upcoming week in Chicago shows partly cloudy skies today, with temperatures reaching a high of 84°F. A slight chance of rain is expected on Monday, with a high of 83°F, followed by mostly clear skies on Tuesday with a high of 81°F. Rain returns on Wednesday, with a 65% chance of showers and a high of 78°F.

The rest of the week looks to be mostly clear with highs in the low 80s, except for Saturday and Sunday, where temperatures will reach 87°F and 90°F, respectively. The UV index is high, so sun protection is recommended.
