Chicago, Illinois – Cooler air and dangerous waves are setting the tone for the Memorial Day weekend in Illinois, with hazardous swimming conditions expected through Friday evening at Lake Michigan beaches.
According to the National Weather Service Chicago, a high swim risk remains in effect Friday due to elevated wave activity and strong currents. Temperatures will hover between 59°F and 68°F Friday afternoon, dipping into the low 40s overnight. The chill will be most pronounced near the shoreline.
Skies are expected to remain partly to mostly cloudy throughout the weekend, with brief periods of sunshine Saturday. Daytime highs will stay in the low to mid-60s across the region, with nighttime lows falling into the 40s through Sunday. The coolest temperatures will persist along the lakefront, making jackets a smart choice for outdoor events.
By Monday, the chance for rain returns late in the day, with lows in the upper 40s to low 50s and highs again near 68°F. Boaters and beachgoers are urged to check local conditions before heading out, especially Friday evening.
More updates are expected if conditions worsen. Swim advisories remain active through tonight.
