Gary, IN – A Chicago man was fatally shot Monday night at the intersection of W. 22nd Plaza and Morton St. in Gary. The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene at 8:50 p.m., confirming the death of 47-year-old Larry Whiters.
According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, Whiters, a resident of the 8200 block of Aberdeen St. in Chicago, died from multiple gunshot wounds. His family positively identified him at the scene. A forensic autopsy was conducted on Tuesday at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point, confirming the manner of death as homicide.
The Gary Police Department, along with the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force and Sheriff’s Department, are investigating the incident. Whiters was pronounced dead at 9:34 p.m. Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact local law enforcement.
The shooting remains under investigation. No suspects have been identified or arrested as of this time.
