Berwyn, IL – A Chicago man faces multiple felony charges after an alleged string of armed robberies in Berwyn. The crime spree ended when police apprehended the suspect following a car crash.
On September 25, at around 2:30 a.m., Berwyn police responded to a 911 call reporting an armed robbery on Highland Ave. A 33-year-old Berwyn resident reported that the suspect demanded his money and car keys at gunpoint before fleeing in the victim’s vehicle.
According to Berwyn Police, officers quickly relayed details of the stolen vehicle to nearby departments. Shortly after, officers in a neighboring suburb spotted the vehicle. The suspect crashed the stolen car and was detained at the scene. A firearm was reportedly found inside the vehicle, and the victim identified the suspect.
The Berwyn Police Department noted that this robbery matched a pattern of four recent armed robberies in the area. Investigators presented their findings to the Cook County State’s Attorney, leading to multiple charges against Justin Mullins, 23, of Chicago. He now faces six counts of armed robbery and several other felonies, including aggravated vehicular hijacking.
