Chicago, IL – A Chicago man is facing weapons charges after authorities say he was found carrying a loaded firearm while riding a CTA Red Line train.
According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, when sheriff’s police were conducting routine patrol checks on a train car. During the check, officers observed a 25-year-old man allegedly smoking, which violates Chicago Transit Authority rules.
Officials said the man, identified as Angel Williams, was taken into custody for disorderly conduct and escorted off the train at the 69th Street stop. During the encounter, officers discovered that Williams was in possession of a loaded handgun, along with a valid concealed carry license.
Authorities noted that carrying a firearm on public transportation is prohibited under Illinois law, regardless of a concealed carry permit.
According to officials, Williams was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. He was later released from custody on Thursday, April 17, following his initial court appearance at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
The case remains pending as it moves through the court system. Officials remind the public that all charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
