Chicago, IL – Summer-like warmth is holding on in northern Illinois as residents head into the first full week of fall. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago says dry, sunny conditions are expected to continue through at least Wednesday.

According to the NWS forecast, daytime highs will reach between the upper 70s and near 90 degrees Sunday through Tuesday, with slightly cooler temperatures by Wednesday. Overnight lows will remain mild, ranging from the upper 50s to mid-60s. The coolest conditions during the day will be found near Lake Michigan, where breezes will keep temperatures several degrees lower.

Forecasters noted that the stretch of weather is unusually warm for late September. Normal highs for this time of year in Chicago typically average in the upper 60s. No precipitation is expected, and skies will remain mostly clear with occasional clouds moving through the region.

The pleasant stretch is good news for outdoor plans, but officials remind residents that warm afternoons and cooler nights may still call for layered clothing. Drivers may also encounter glare from bright sun during morning and evening commutes.

The current forecast keeps Illinois dry through midweek, with the next chance of changing conditions arriving later in the week.
