The National Weather Service (NWS) in Cheyenne has issued a High Wind Watch for parts of southeast Wyoming, including Converse County, the North and South Laramie Range Foothills, and East Platte County. The advisory is in effect from Saturday evening through late Sunday night.
According to the NWS, west winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts reaching up to 60 mph are possible during this period. The areas impacted include major transportation routes such as Interstate 80 between Cheyenne and Laramie, and sections of Interstate 25. These winds could pose significant hazards to lightweight or high-profile vehicles like campers and tractor trailers.
Residents and travelers in the region are advised to prepare for potentially dangerous conditions and monitor updated forecasts. A High Wind Watch indicates the potential for sustained winds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or higher.
Motorists, particularly those driving large vehicles, should exercise caution, as strong crosswinds may increase the risk of accidents. Local officials recommend securing loose outdoor items and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak wind events.
