Charlotte, NC – A thick blanket of dense fog grips the Carolinas this morning, reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less from Greenville to Charlotte and across the I-85 corridor. The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Dense Fog Advisory until 10 a.m. Sunday, warning drivers of dangerously low visibility and slick spots where moisture meets freezing temperatures.

Motorists should slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra space on bridges, ramps, and rural roadways. Fog has also been reported along I-77 through Rock Hill and I-26 toward Spartanburg, with conditions improving gradually by late morning as light winds return.

By midday, skies become partly sunny with highs near 49°F, offering a mild break before clouds rebuild Sunday night. A 20% chance of light rain develops after dark, followed by a 50% chance of showers Monday as a weak cold front approaches. Winds will pick up slightly out of the northeast, adding a chill to the start of the week.

After the fog and rain, sunshine returns Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the lower 50s before cooler air moves back in late week. Long-range models suggest a colder push mid-December (Dec. 11–17) could mark the Carolinas’ first true taste of winter air, potentially setting up frost or early freeze risks.
