Charleston, S.C. – Drivers and coastal residents across Charleston and Colleton counties are urged to use caution this afternoon as tidal flooding develops along the South Carolina coast. The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect until 5 p.m. as water levels rise to around 7 feet during the afternoon high tide.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, high tide is expected around 3:17 p.m., with saltwater inundation possible one to two hours before and after the peak. Water could cover low-lying roads near the harbor and barrier islands, making some routes impassable.
Flooding is most likely along the Charleston Peninsula, U.S. 17 near the Ashley River Bridge, and other vulnerable coastal zones. Officials advise avoiding travel through standing water and allowing extra time for detours.
Residents in flood-prone neighborhoods should move vehicles to higher ground and avoid driving through barricades.
The advisory remains in effect through late afternoon, with additional alerts possible during evening high tides.
