Channahon, IL – A hazardous materials incident at the Ineos Styrolution America refinery, located at 25846 S Frontage Road, began around 1 p.m. Saturday and lasted several hours. The incident involved a 5,000-gallon tank and required a multi-agency response, including the Channahon Fire Protection District and the Division 15 Hazardous Materials Team.
According to the Channahon Fire Protection District, the hazard on site has been mitigated, and there is no longer any active release. Hazardous Materials Teams monitored and confirmed that the chemical incident has stabilized, posing no safety threat to the community. The incident has since been transferred to facility personnel.
No injuries were sustained by either facility or first responder personnel. The cause of the release is currently under investigation by INEOS personnel.
