Channahon, IL – Police officers pursued an armed suicidal subject early Tuesday, ending in a fiery crash. The subject, allegedly under the influence of narcotics, fled from officers before the chase concluded on Sunset Drive.
According to Channahon Police, Wilmington officers first attempted a stop, but the driver sped away. At 1:22 a.m., Channahon officers located the suspect’s vehicle near Bluff Road and Interstate 55. The driver fled, traveling north, then turned south, accelerating toward officers. Stop sticks disabled the vehicle, which crashed into a tree, igniting a fire. Officers quickly extinguished the flames.
Unbeknownst to officers, the suspect had exited the moving vehicle before impact. A Reverse 911 alert advised nearby residents to shelter in place. At 2:25 a.m., officers found and detained the suspect.
Emergency responders transported the suspect to a hospital for evaluation. Authorities confirmed no officers sustained injuries. Charges are pending as the investigation continues. Police assured the community there is no current threat.
