Mahomet, IL – Three people are dead after a shooting Wednesday night on Riverside Drive, authorities said.
Mahomet police responded at 9:41 p.m. to reports of multiple gunshot victims at a residence in the 1100 block. Officers found three individuals suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite immediate medical aid by officers and emergency personnel, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two victims were transported to Carle Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
According to Mahomet Police Chief Michael L. Metzler, the suspect in the shooting has been identified and located. The Illinois State Police, Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office are assisting with the investigation.
The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation. Mahomet Police are urging anyone with information to contact the department at (217) 586-5533.
