Duluth, MN – A winter storm is set to blanket northeastern Minnesota today, with heavy snowfall likely to disrupt travel along I-35 and surrounding areas. The National Weather Service warns of widespread accumulations of 2 to 6 inches, with localized amounts exceeding 8 inches in higher elevations near the North Shore.
According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snow is expected this morning through mid-afternoon, creating dangerous driving conditions, especially near the Twin Ports, Brainerd Lakes, and Bayfield Peninsula. Snowfall rates could reach up to 1 inch per hour during peak periods. Drivers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise caution on slippery roads.
Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect for the region, with gusty winds and reduced visibility expected to persist into Friday morning. The storm will taper to light snow by late afternoon but could continue to accumulate another 1 to 3 inches through the night.
Looking ahead, Friday will see calmer conditions with a high of 16°F. Saturday brings partly sunny skies and a high near 19°F, making it an ideal day for outdoor activities. Sunday, however, introduces a chance of snow late at night, followed by colder temperatures next week.
Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and prepare for potential power outages due to the heavy, wet snow. Keep an emergency kit on hand and stay tuned to local forecasts for any changes to the storm’s path.
