Champaign, IL – The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office has teamed up with the Eastern Illinois Foodbank to help fight hunger in central Illinois. The initiative, running until November 22, aims to gather non-perishable food items for local families facing food insecurity.
Donations can be dropped off at the Sheriff’s Office lobby. Last year, the Sheriff’s Office collected the most items, winning the friendly competition among local police departments. They are aiming for a repeat victory this year with the community’s support. The effort is part of the “Protect and Feed” campaign, which combines local law enforcement’s commitment to safety with aiding food relief efforts.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, this friendly competition not only brings out community spirit but also raises awareness about food insecurity in the area. Participants may also make monetary donations online to support the drive further.
Local residents are encouraged to participate by donating canned goods, pasta, and other shelf-stable items. The drive will conclude with a final count on November 22, with results expected shortly after.
