Champaign County, IL Man Arrested in May Shooting Investigation

Champaign, IL – A Champaign man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured another man in May, according to the Champaign Police Department.

According to Champaign police, officers responded at 8:49 p.m. on Friday, May 23, to the 1200 block of W. Bradley Avenue following reports of a shooting with injuries. When officers arrived, they found a 30-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police said officers and members of the Champaign Fire Department provided medical aid at the scene before the victim was transported to a local hospital. The man was treated for what authorities described as a non-life-threatening injury and was later released.

Investigators allege the victim was attending a gathering in the 1200 block of W. Bradley Avenue when Kevin P. Pettis, 54, allegedly fired shots, striking the victim.

According to the Champaign Police Department, Pettis was arrested on Thursday, July 16, on an outstanding warrant with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service and Champaign Police detectives.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding a possible motive or the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
