Riverton, WY – Wyoming residents can expect high winds and snow showers Monday as winter holds on just days before spring officially begins. Strong gusts over 40 mph will impact central Wyoming, creating hazardous travel conditions on St. Patrick’s Day.

According to the National Weather Service, a High Wind Warning is in effect Sunday through Monday across much of central Wyoming, including Riverton, Casper, and Rock Springs. Wind speeds of 19 to 29 mph will intensify, with gusts reaching up to 47 mph. Snow showers will develop late Monday night into Tuesday, bringing 1 to 3 inches of accumulation.

Travelers should exercise caution, especially on major roadways such as Interstate 25 and US Highway 26, where strong crosswinds may reduce visibility. Drivers of high-profile vehicles are particularly at risk.

By Tuesday, temperatures will drop to a low of 12°F, with scattered snow showers persisting into the evening. Winds will shift to the north at 10 to 14 mph, adding to the cold conditions.

Looking ahead, spring officially begins Thursday, but Wyoming’s weather will remain unsettled. Expect partly sunny skies midweek, with highs in the 40s, followed by another chance of rain and snow by Thursday night.

Residents should secure outdoor objects, drive cautiously, and stay updated with local forecasts as conditions change.
