Jackson, MS – Mississippi residents should prepare for warmer and drier-than-usual conditions heading into next week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson. The outlook covers October 7 through October 11, 2025.

According to the NWS and NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, much of the U.S., including Mississippi and surrounding states, is forecast to experience above-normal temperatures. The strongest probability of higher-than-average heat lies across the central and southern states.

Precipitation is expected to remain below normal across portions of the Southeast, including Mississippi, during this period. The extended forecast highlights a continued dry pattern, though forecasters noted that rainfall chances could increase slightly by mid-October.

These conditions are not unusual for this time of year, but extended stretches of heat and dryness may stress agriculture, water supply, and outdoor activity plans. The NWS advises residents to continue monitoring local forecasts, especially those with travel or harvest schedules.

Meanwhile, parts of the western U.S. and Alaska are expected to see above-normal precipitation, providing some contrast to the drier conditions in the Southeast.

For now, Mississippi residents should anticipate warm afternoons, limited rain chances, and the continuation of early fall’s dry stretch.
