New York, NY – Air across the New York City metro area feels dramatically more comfortable today, as dew points have dropped into the 50s—a rare break from the sticky humidity that’s gripped much of the summer.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, dew point readings at 3 p.m. Tuesday ranged from just 50°F in Meriden, CT, to 59°F in Groton–New London. Most major locations, including Central Park and Shirley, NY, reported dew points in the low to mid-50s, a level considered comfortable and much less oppressive than the 70s seen earlier this summer.

Residents from White Plains to Teterboro and Newark, NJ, are enjoying this brief spell of dry air, with dew points holding steady between 53°F and 56°F. This lower moisture content is making outdoor activities more pleasant and reducing the strain on air conditioners, especially compared to the muggy stretches in June and early July.

Communities across Long Island and southern Connecticut can expect less frizzy hair, better sleep, and easier breathing as a result of these drier conditions. For those with respiratory issues, the lower dew points also mean less discomfort. Homeowners are advised to ventilate spaces and take advantage of the cooler air.

While this dry air mass is expected to linger through the evening, forecasters note the humidity could return by midweek, so residents should stay tuned for the latest advisories.

Comfortable conditions will last into tonight, but rising humidity is possible later this week. More updates will be issued if dew points climb back into the sticky range.
