Columbus, OH – Temperatures will drop quickly late Sunday night, falling below freezing by 4 a.m. Monday north of I-70 and creating conditions for frost and isolated slick spots on bridges and overpasses. Early morning drivers could encounter patchy ice where residual moisture lingers, especially along I-70, I-71, and I-75 corridors.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Freeze Watch is in effect Sunday night through 8 a.m. Monday for areas near and north of I-70, including Columbus, Dayton, and Lima. Overnight lows are expected in the 30s across much of the region, with colder pockets dipping into the upper 20s.
Frost is also possible tonight, especially northwest of I-71, including areas such as Richmond, IN, and western Ohio communities. Rain will exit before midnight, allowing skies to partially clear and temperatures to fall तेजी. This setup increases the likelihood of widespread frost formation before the deeper freeze arrives Sunday night.
Residents should cover or bring in sensitive plants and avoid running sprinklers overnight to prevent ice formation on sidewalks and roads. Drivers should use caution during early morning hours, particularly on elevated surfaces where freezing occurs first.
Frost risks continue into early Sunday, followed by a more significant freeze late Sunday night into Monday morning. Additional advisories or warnings may be issued as colder air settles across the region.
