Syracuse, NY – A winter storm warning remains in effect across central and northern New York, with heavy snow and gusty winds expected to continue into Friday morning. Up to 5 inches of additional snow accumulation is forecast in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service, the warning impacts Onondaga, Jefferson, Madison, Oswego, and Lewis counties and is set to expire at 4 a.m. Friday. Winds gusting up to 45 mph are expected to create blowing snow and reduce visibility, making travel treacherous during and after the Thursday evening commute.
Northern Oneida County and the Eastern Lake Ontario Region are among the hardest-hit areas, where rapidly shifting snow bands are causing hazardous driving conditions. Authorities urge drivers to avoid unnecessary travel and to keep emergency supplies in their vehicles.
Residents are advised to stay updated on conditions through official sources and to prepare for continued snow accumulation overnight.
