Grand Island, Neb. – Early risers across central Nebraska could wake up to patchy frost this morning, with temperatures dropping to near-freezing levels through 9 a.m. Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, a Frost Advisory remains in effect for central, south-central, and eastern portions of the state, including the Tri-Cities area—Grand Island, Hastings, and Kearney. Lows are expected to range between 33 and 37 degrees, cold enough to potentially damage or kill sensitive vegetation if left uncovered.
Counties west of Highway 281—including Dawson, Gosper, and Phelps—face a greater likelihood of frost formation due to more prolonged exposure to colder air. Meanwhile, areas to the east may escape the worst of the chill, though conditions remain marginal for early morning frost.
Gardeners and growers are urged to take precautions to protect tender plants, especially in rural and low-lying areas where colder air tends to settle. Covering plants or moving potted varieties indoors can reduce the risk of damage.
This advisory is expected to expire by mid-morning, and no additional frost concerns are currently forecast through at least May 9. Updates will follow if conditions change.
